It is never easy to lose a pet. Most people hope that when the time comes
their pet will die peacefully in his sleep. Oftentimes, however,
natural death does not occur until after the pet has endured some amount of
suffering. Making the decision to prevent or end suffering instead of
waiting for natural death is both difficult and heartbreaking. Choosing a
dignified, peaceful, painless death, through euthanasia, can be one of
the kindest gifts you can give your pet at the end of its life.
Once you have made the decision, usually after consultation with your
regular veterinarian, you have a couple of options to consider.
Euthanasia is most often performed by your regular veterinarian at a
veterinary hospital. Alternatively, if your pets medical condition
allows, you may have the option of having a veterinarian come to your
